Sam Rubin ’85 and Catherine Wilson ’72 participated in the Sept. 22 DOROT Rosh Hashanah food package delivery.
Overall, it was a great experience. My dad (86 years old) wound up feeling well enough to join me, and we met Catherine Wilson ’72 at the Upper East Side location.
Our group of three traveled to drop off two packages for a husband and wife (no visit, because they were going out) and then visited an elderly woman not far from where my dad lives. It was particularly meaningful to hear about some of the things this woman struggles with, including loss of vision, and help her come up with ways to cope. She seemed appreciative of the visit, especially because she lives alone and has no family members nearby. She relies mainly on friends to help her get around — because of her vision issues she cannot cross any streets without help. I know we would do this again — visiting either that same woman or someone else.
Be on the lookout for future opportunities to participate in DOROT’s upcoming deliveries!
