YANA Awarded 8th Consecutive YAA Board of Governors Excellence Award

“For the past year, Yale Alumni Nonprofit Alliance core programming focused on structural inequality, sounding the alarm within the Yale community on the inequity suffered by people of color. Using a multi-media combination of in-person panels, videos, and virtual town halls, YANA’s Fighting Inequality series advanced the goal of democratizing access to the resources and opportunities.”

Dr. Sharmila Anandasabapathy ’93 of Baylor Global Health, developer of Smart Pod, unveils the first Smart Health Care Pod in the U.S. in Harris County Precinct 2, helping to close the health care access gap. In Sept. 2019, Dr. Anandasabapathy was featured in a YANA Evening Tea.

NYS FAMILY CAREGIVERS GET NIH PHASE I GRANT

Long-time YANA Member Peg Graham’s invention — the “PPAL®,” a patented innovative bedside commode — received a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research grant (SBIR) from the NIH, specifically the National Institute of Nursing Research. Her startup, QUA INC, an S-Corporation based in New Rochelle, New York, is partnering with the Georgia Institute of Technology to refine the prototype design, then recruit 10 wheelchair users in the Atlanta area to compare the use of the refined PPAL® versus their usual experience transferring between a commode and a bed.
