May’s New York Monthly Meeting’s Spotlight featured Ted Smith, Executive Director of New Heights Youth, Inc. a sports-based youth development non-profit that uses basketball as a hook to engage inner-city youth in academic and leadership development and supports them through high school, college and life.
A Note from Executive Director, Ted Smith:
Thanks to YANA Chair Ken Inadomi for inviting me to share our work at New Heights with the YANA membership in NYC. As the first person to present our organization for a second time at the spotlight, it was an honor, and also incredible to see how much YANA and the membership have grown since my first presentation when YANA was in its infancy.
New Heights, like YANA, has grown tremendously over the past seven years. We harness young people’s passion for basketball to create educational and life opportunities that may not otherwise be available to them. We have expanded our enrollment and program services each of the past few years, and we have an ambitious plan to continue to expand our reach and impact over the next few years. We would love to engage any YANA members with our work in the classroom, on the court on in the community. We are always looking for caring, committed and passionate people to support our work and the youth we serve.
We have a busy summer ahead with several events – a Women’s Leadership Breakfast, a golf outing, and summer program visits and activities. Please feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions or ideas at tsmith@newheightsnyc.org.
You can learn more at www.newheightsnyc.org or on our social media sites – @newheightsnyc. Lastly, you can view our Annual Report or our Alumni Reflection Video to get a greater sense of our work.
Thank you to the YANA community for all that you do.
