October’s New York Monthly Meeting’s Spotlight featured Kathy Soll, Founder & CEO of Teens For Food Justicea nonprofit that applies hydroponic urban farming techniques to ensure equitable access to healthy, fresh, and affordable food.

Here is a message from Kathy:

Many thanks to Ken Inadomi and YANA for inviting Teens for Food Justice to present to members on its rapid growth and development since winning the Social Enterprise Challenge in 2014. It was particularly exciting to be joined by new TFFJ board member, Randy Stern, husband of YANA member and Yale grad, Carole Whitehead, who came to TFFJ through our board opportunity posting with YANA.

TFFJ is now operating in three schools, engaging close 500 students annually actively in the program—growing large quantities of produce hydroponically for their schools and communities and sharing nutrition, health and advocacy skills to end food insecurity and lead themselves and others to healthier futures. With a current budget of close to $2M, two more NYC schools scheduled to open by 2020, four others in discussion, and a Miami launch underway, TFFJ continues to seek qualified Directors, eager to strategically and financially support the organization and be a part of an innovative movement to end food insecurity in one generation.
