About Go South

Go South connects college students interested in meaningful work to organizations building southern communities. Founded by Yale undergraduates who call the South home, this initiative is committed to sharing the region’s diverse people, places, challenges, and solutions with southerners and non-southerners alike. We love the South, but we know all too well that few Ivy League students and young alumni see the region as an attractive option for living and working.

Go South Summer counters this trend by placing Ivy League students in summer fellowships at nonprofits in Southern cities including Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, West Virginia. Fellows work on capacity-building projects and provide critical human capital to organizations doing great work in their communities. Through the holistic structure of the program, which includes homestays and cultural opportunities, they also build long-lasting relationships with community members, organizations, and alumni.
