POWELL’S COVE CLEANUP with the
COASTAL PRESERVATION NETWORK (CPN)
Jan. 18, 2021 | Queens, New York

Coastal Preservation Network organized almost 100 volunteers to spend a couple of hours cleaning up Powell’s Cove Park as part of MLK Day of Service on Monday. The majority of the volunteers were local school children. We removed dozens of bags of trash from the park.

Per their website, Coastal Preservation Network “is dedicated to restoring and protecting the coastal environment in Northeast Queens, improving local waterfront parks through hands-on action and advocacy, increasing public access to local waters, providing environmental education, and empowering residents to be greener in their daily lives.”

Kat Cervino, the co-founder of CPN, is interested in working with Yale Community Connect and/or Yale Day of Service in the future. They will always have a need for groups of volunteers to help them with various projects, because their organization itself is fairly small. All of their events are in Queens.
