28TH AVENUE BEACH CLEANUP
WITH THE MISSION CONTINUES
Sept. 26, 2020 | Queens, NY

On September 26, 2020, Sam Rubin represented Yale Community Connect at the 28th Avenue Beach Cleanup in Queens, N.Y., organized by our partner The Mission Continues, who joined forces with the Coastal Preservation Network to bring together close to 20 masked and gloved volunteers. In just a few hours, Sam and his father Allen Rubin helped fill almost a full dumpster’s worth of trash off the beach. The beach has a beautiful view of the bay and the New York City skyline but has become overrun with garbage over the years. In addition to the usual trash, Sam and team also found a car seat, an engine, and what looked like an old VCR. The clean-up will continue in October, date to be confirmed, with the hope to return a third time to build structures and seating to make it even easier for people to enjoy the beach.
