MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY OF SERVICE PROJECT
WITH THE MISSION CONTINUES
Jan. 18, 2020 | Mosaic Prep Academy, NY
Sam Rubin represented Yale Community Connect during the Martín Luther King Jr. Day of Service at Mosaic Preparatory Academy, organized by The Mission Continues. Yale Community Connect introduced the two organizational partners in 2019, and they launched the first MLK Jr. Day of Service cooperation together last year, accomplishing thousands of dollars in renovations and repairs. We look forward to this annual tradition of partnership-in-action.
From Sam Rubin, YC Connect Volunteer:
About 30 volunteers, including military veterans, split up into two groups, with some helping to clear out a room in the basement that was filled with outdated/broken equipment and other trash. Within a few hours we had freed up about 2,500 square feet of extra room (and filled up the dumpster), so we then joined the second group upstairs to help finish their project — painting the hallways and classrooms. We wrapped up with pizza and a thank-you speech from Daniel Perez, the Mission Continues project leader. All in all, a great experience!
