2019 Yale Day of Service: Urban Debate League Judging
Saturday, May 11, 2019 | New York, NY
This was an opportunity to judge practice debates and mini tournaments for middle school and high school students who are part of the Debate club in NYC.

At the Urban Debate League, 14 Yale alumni and one just-accepted Yale student from Stuyvesant HS, enjoyed judging middle school and high school debates on the topic, “Should the United States sell arms to Saudi Arabia?”
The debaters, who hailed from all over NYC and even NJ, impressed us with their passion and purposefulness, eagerness to hear feedback, and respectfulness toward each other. For some Yale alumni, the experience evoked fond memories of high school debates. For others, we enjoyed getting trained and brought up to speed in both public forum and parliamentary debate judging. Many thanks to all who came out for an enjoyable, thought-provoking day! We look forward to returning to Urban Debate League on a more regular basis through Yale Community Connect!
